Is Diflucan or any other oral yeast infection medication available over the counter? I am looking for oral yeast infection medications that are available over the counter. I don't have a regular doctor and do not have the time to go this week. Or, are there any non medicinal ways to treat a yeast infection. I started eating some yogurt and drinking cranberry juice. I have eaten a clove of garlic once before to get rid of a bladder infection. Does that work the same for yeast infection?

sokokl replied: "In relation to oral yeast medications like Diflucan and Nystatin, no they are not over the counter as of yet. The eating of the yogurt will help with treating the yeast infection. The reason it does is because it has good cultures called lactobacilli which helps keep the vagina and even the intestinal (yep, one can have a yeast problem in their intestines) tract running smoothly. If you suspect that you have a yeast infection I would recommend seeing a dr to have them evaluate the situation before trying to self treat. If money is an issue check with the city health dept to see if they offer free health clinics. If not check with a Medical School if there is one close by. You can also ask the dr if they offer samples of the Diflucan to help cut on some of the cost of the medication."

Does anybody know what I can use for yeast infections over the counter? I don't like Monistat 7 because it has a bad effect when I use it. I would prefer Diflucan, but what can I use to get rid of this or ease the discomfort of this irritating infection? Any suggestions?

eitaka replied: "What kind of bad effect? I love diflucan! When I don't have that though, I usually use the Monistat 1day. Eating yogurt will also help to restore your body's natural balance. Also, there are some home remedies you can use to cure a yeast infection. One of them is to soak a tampon in plain yogurt and put it inside you. I think you change the tampon every 8 hours for a day or so."

mrcricket1932 replied: "The one thing you need to understand about yeast infection is; the area must remain within an acid ph ... indicating you must acidify the area. Vinegar base is pretty acidic, so need to proportion it with water. Yeast infection will thrive in an alkaline area."

spacecowboy replied: "go to the Doctor or if you have a Doc. that you go to call the Doc's receptionist and ask to talk to the nurse and see if she has any suggestions"

How long do I need to wait before having sex after taking diflucan to cure yeast infection? I'm suffering from a yeast infection, I've tried to treat it with the over the counter monistat, it relieved most of the symptoms but they came back a few days later. My doctor prescribed me the one dose of diflucan, if I take it today how long will it take to cure my yeast infection? and how long should I wait before having sex?

Twinkle3 replied: "Diflucan takes about 2 days for you to feel releif, and you should be cured by the day 3. From personal experience, I would advise you to wait until day 5 (after taking the pill) before sex."

3ng1n33rgurl replied: "First answer is good. Keep in mind guys can get and spread yeast infections, so it will be considerate if you have the guy wear a condom for like even up to a week after you and him resume sex, just so he doesn't get it and give it back to you."

Laura L replied: "The partner needs to be treated because he has it too. He will continue to reinfect you if he isn't treated."

m replied: "It should say on the box, but I think its 3 days."

What happens if you take Prilosec OTC and Diflucan? I had a recent Dr.'s vist and since I was prescribed an antibiotic, I also got Diflucan. My Dr. knows I'm taking over-the-counter Prilosec OTC for acid reflux and she didn't mention any interactions. But the box says to ask before taking any anti-yeast meds with it. Why?

mlgable replied: "It may cause the med to be less effective. If you have and doubts or concerns just call your pharmacist and talk to him about it."

fine_ass_fatty21 replied: "i take prolsec regularly it dont interact with any medication. Especially diflucan to tottaly different types of med dont worry continue like normal use. Diflican will attack yeast prolosec will attack acide and acid juices. but if your really worried just call the ER or dr office and talk to a nurse she will know!"

Fastest OVER THE COUNTER method?? HELP? What is the best/fastest over the counter treatment for a yeast infection? I've always gone to the doctor and she gives me Diflucan but I am out of town and can't get into another doctor. Thanks! My doctor absolutely won't phone it in unless she sees me. I tried......

C.C replied: "probably the 3 day monistat Diflucan is the best I used it when I was pregnant first and never could use creams now"

vanshorkenstein replied: "call your dr and have them call in diflucan to whatever pharmacy you are near"

Sweetie S replied: "They sell AZO Yeast at Walmart for under $6 and it is great for relieving the pain/itch/etc. You also should buy a 3 or 7 day treatment pack of Monistat to get rid of the infection. AZO will not cure the infection. Take 3 of the AZO pills ASAP, and also begin the first day of monistat at bedtime. They both work great. I get these infections monthly, and that is what seems to work for me."

Where can I get fluconazole (diflucan) without getting a pre ion? This is not an over-the-counter drug. How can I obtain some without a pre ion? Is this possible? I am looking for the 150 mg tablets that are taken orally.

redunicorn@sbcglobal.net replied: "You need a doctor to get this."

madman2k111428 replied: "U can't unless you Cross the border to Canada"

webjnke1 replied: "If you end up at an online site to get it , be very careful, a lot of them (without a pre ion) have been tested and don't even have the medicine in it, that it claims."

graveyardspunka replied: "You could buy it off of the streets, but that's against the law.For the amount of money you would pay on the streets it would be cheaper for you to get a pre ion from a doctor. Then you go get it filled it's alot cheaper(if you have insurance)Those are your only two choices, unless you have a friend of ours who takes the drug and is willing to give it up free of charge.Good Luck and Take Care.Bye...."

kashakole@yahoo.com replied: "it would be easier to call your doctor and have them call you in a . its a normal thing nothing to be ashamed of"

drcysto replied: "if you have a yeast infection you can just take miconazole (applicator), that's over the counter."

avnode replied: "MEXICO"

Is there an alternative to treating a yeast infection other than the creams or Diflucan? A vitamin, maybe? I get yeast infections occasionally and hate buying those over the counter creams. They don't always work! And I don't have health insurance so I don't want to spend money going to a doctor just for a pre ion. I read that you can actually insert a vitamin A supplement into your vagina as an alternative to the creams. Is this true? Is there anything else I can do? Thank you!

Chrissy D replied: "Take a vitamin like acidophilus. It's a probiotic and should prevent the yeast infections. Or you could eat more yogurt. (I would rather take the vitamin though. I find yogurt disgusting.)"

TheOtherOne replied: "From what I've heard, drinking cranberry juice really is a good way of avoiding UTIs."

gregg k replied: "Concentrate on what you eat, i.e. sugary foods, carbohydrates, etc. Don't rely on somebody outside of you to fix your problems. Vitamin A is perfect; vitamin B; vitamin C; vitamin D; vitamin E; uhh. I don't think there is a vitamin F through J; there's a vitamin K and . . . wait (L, M, N, O, P, Q, . . .XYZ). No more vitamins. But there is herbs and minerals that are just screaming."

DEBRA S replied: "You should take probiotics. You can also apply sugar free plain yogurt directly to your vulva if you feel terrible. Stay away from sugars and breads they only feed yeast. Keep VERY dry to discourage yeast growth."

iknowit replied: "Vitamins will do absolutely nothing on their own to fight yeast infections. In fact, using vitamins may only feed the yeast cells. However, vitamins can boost your own immune system and help it fight off infections."

rien.de.nullepart. replied: "My doctor told me that inserting a small amount PLAIN yogurt into the vagina could help cure a yeast infection. google 'yogurt and yeast infection' and you will get some good info. oh, and taking antibiotics causes yeast infections sometimes. so watch out! i refuse to take them now."
