Valtrex 500 Mg Daily Information in Q&A
Do you have herpes and if so....? ...are you taking any medication that has caused you to lose your hair? I take Valtrex, 500 mg. twice daily, suppressive therapy. My hair falls out a lot and I was also wondering if lost hair due to medication will grow back in?

cailieco replied: "You need to talk to your Dr about this you may ned to change your meds."

TweetyBird replied: "Hair loss isn't associated with the use of Valtrex. Look to something else for the cause."

rainingonme replied: "Yes and my hair has grown back in slowly. After not taking it for a while then I have another outbreak and I go to One tablet a day. and off and then on but I'm not sexually active. So I don't have to worry about giving it to no one else. I wish some one would have been as thoughtful to me 16 years ago."

jackiedj8952 replied: "Ask your Dr.,hair lose can be from your kidneys. That is the first thing my Dr.asked me about when I was going through treatment for reoccurring kidney infections."

Iris replied: "Im a nursing student, and i honestly have NEVER heard of herpes meds having that side effect. I looked in My medical dictionary as well and saw nothing on that side effect. My guess is that it may actually be something else. I'm with the other nurse, go to the doctor and tell him or her because I dont think the meds is the issue"

question about valtrex && acyclovir.? when diagnosed with HSV-1 genital herpes i was taking valtrex 500mg twice daily. i did this for about 3 months and then stopped. 6 months after that diagnoses i was diagnosed with occular herpes. I then took acyclovir 500 mg twice daily. i did this for about 2 months and then stopped because i noticed my symptoms of occular herpes getting worse. now this is 2 years later.. i got a year pre ion for 400mg of acyclovir twice daily.. is it safe to stop and then start taking this medication again?? or should i just take it when i get an outbreak or feel one coming?? ** i havent had an genital or herpes outbreak since being diagnosed

bizzurke replied: "Yes but you'll get anothing break out soon after."

brendie replied: "sounds safer just to take the med."

Rivergirl100 replied: "It is perfectly safe to leave herpes of any sort untreated. There are only a couple of reasons to take an antiviral (of any type) for herpes. First, you might want to take it to reduce the number and severity of outbreaks. If you don't think that the drugs are doing this, then it is perfectly safe to just stop taking them for a while and see what happens. Herpes doesn't cause other diseases, or other infections. It flares up and causes symptoms - but it doesn't lead to other bad things. Second, you might want to take an antiviral to lessen the likelihood of spreading your genital herpes. As you probably know, herpes can be spread when no symptoms are present. Taking a daily antiviral reduces the chance of spreading herpes when no symptoms are present. And there are two ways to take antivirals. You can take them everyday - for the reasons mentioned above - or you can just take them when you have an outbreak to shorten the length and severity of the outbreak. I hope this helps. I would suggest that you speak with your doctor about this as well. Good luck."

Should I take Valtrex? I was diagnosed with HSV-2 about a month ago. Clueless as to how long I've actually had it, have never had an outbreak (atleast to my knowledge). I started taking 500 mg as daily suppressive just to reduce my risk of transmission or ever having an outbreak. I've been on it for about 2 weeks now and I've had this constant underlying headache, almost a migraine (behind my eyes), vision problems, and overall fatigue feeling. So I'm wondering if it's even worth it?? Anyone that takes the med. have the same symptoms?? Will I be OK without it?? Thanks for any helpful info or suggestions. I am looking for answers from people who can share experiences or with medical knowledge. No ignorant postings please. =)

R S replied: "You could google Valtrex or pull up the website to the pharmaceutical company that made Valtrex and look at possible side effects... or look on Web MD... but honestly, my suggestion is to call your doctor's office and talk with his/her nurse and let her know the symptoms you are having. You may need to be on a different medication, or change your dosage... Communicating directly with your health care professional is your best and safest bet. Good Luck!!"

usmcwife910 replied: "ive had the same problems with valtrex. i stopped taking it every day because it made me so tired and groggy. i couldnt focus and i had a slight headache that was constant througout the day. now i keep them on hand so that if i feel an outbreak coming i take 2 a day for 5 days. if it bothers you that much, dont take it everyday. most people dont need to be on suppresive therapy. if you are in a relationship and it makes you both feel better to take it every day then i would say find a way to work through it. maybe take more vitamins to get ur immune system up and give you a boost everyday to try and fight the fatigue. but if you dont have to take it, dont. when you know your body and you can sense an outbreak, you can take the valtrex right away and prevent or shorten the outbreak. hope this helps."

LINDSEY S replied: "Being on Valtrex for long periods of time is not good for you. I only take Valtrex when I feel an out break coming on. If your in a relationship then you may want to think about taking it more regularly or at least talk to your doctor and see if there is a lower dose you can take. When ever I take Valtrex, I get very nauseous to the point of wanting to throw up (another lovely side affect of Valtrex) but haven't noticed headaches being a side affect. As long as your keeping your immune system strong and staying away from what triggers then you should be able to keep your out breaks in check."
